This week-end was 3 days break because of the patriotic day, Monday August 6th. Since that was almost my unique 3 days week-end I decided to get out of La Paz and discover another part of the country that I didn’t know yet. So I went to do the El Choro trek, a 3 days trek that begins in the cold Cumbre (4725m), pass at Abra Chucura (4859m) to end in the really warm village of Chairo at 1750m. If we do the subtraction it is 3km of altitude difference that we did in 70km road!
In details, I began the trip last Saturday with 2 French and 2 British people, 1 guide, 1 cook and 2 guys that carried out tents. All the Bolivian people were Aymara, so I had a chance to learn some words and expression of this indigenous language. It wasn’t an easy trek even if 80% of the road were going down. So it was a little bit hard on the knees. First day we walked 6 hours to get to the charming small village of Challa Pampa were 4 families live and were all the trekkers are camping the first night. Than, we got up at 6h00 to start our second day at 7h00 to do 8 hours of walking and get to Sandillani (2000m) ot the Japanese’s house. We camped there with a panoramic view of all the mountains and the precipice! It was just like a paradise! Our last day was pretty quiet with 2h30 walking to get to the warm place of Chairo. From there we took a bus to get to Coroico, the nearest city were we could find bus to La Paz.
It was really a wonderful week-end ‘coz more we were going down, more we could see the change in climate and vegetation. Also, it was really good to get some warm weather instead of the cold of La Paz. Pictures will follow soon.
